Psalm 63:1-8

O God, you are my God
earnestly I seek you;
my soul thirst for you,
my body longs for you,
in a dry and weary land
where there is no water.

I have seen you in the sanctuary
and beheld your power and your glory.
Because your love is better than life,
my lips will glorify you.
I will praise you as long as I live,
and in your name I will lift up my hands.
My soul will be satisfied as with the richest foods;
with singing lips my mouth will praise you.

On my bed I remember you;
I think of you through the watch of the night.
Because you are my help,
I sing in the shadow of your wings.
My soul clings to you;
your right hand upholds me.

Sons of God

Romans 8:12 says...

Therefore brothers, we have an obligation-but it is not to the sinful nature, to live according to it. For it you live according the the sinful nature you will die;but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live, because those who are led by the Spirit are sons of God.

Notice here that Paul is talking to those who belong to the Church. He is telling them that if they live according to their flesh then they will die but if BY THE SPIRIT they put to death the misdeeds of the flesh then they will live. And then goes on to say that it those who are LED by the Spirit that are sons of God. This verse kind of speaks for itself. Previously in Chapter 8 verse 3 it says, "For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in sinful man, in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be FULLY met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit." Later Romans 8:9 says to those in the church "You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the spirit, IF the spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ he does not belong to Christ."

So...in all of these passages Paul is making the point that true sons of God WILL be led by the spirit. If someone truly is a follower of Christ and has the Spirit of God living in them they will be bearing the fruits of the spirit and putting to death the deeds of the flesh. There is no such thing as christians who aren't living out the christian life and who aren't being led by the spirit because the very thing that demonstrates our sonship is the evidence of being led by the spirit.

Just a few thoughts...
